I have suddenly lost the centering force in my MSFFB2 stick and have no idea how this has happened. I haven't changed anything in the config or my sidewinder profiles but when I started Lockon today my stick was limp (yes, I know how that sounds:D). I've tried my other games such as FS9 and IL2 and the stick functions perfectly.

I know having feedback enabled causes problems so I have only been using the centering force which has worked fine until now. If anyone using this stick could give me tips on how to fix this I would be most grateful.

Under LockOn/Config folder, open producer.cfg with a notepad. Make sure the line reads:

ForceFeedbackEnabled = true;

Some 3rd party mods changes this setting.

Thanks but I've purposely set this to false as I don't want the force effects enabled. I've been flying with centering force only with no problems up until now. I've heard that some MSFFB2 users have no centering at all but it's worked fine for me so I'm really puzzled as to how this has changed. I can't think of any mods I've installed which would cause this either.:(

I've been using an MSFFB2 W/ LO for - since before I got LO anyway - & always had the FFB enabled - never had any problems with it.

If the stick works with the FFB enabled, can't you just configure off the FFB in the software (or just use the FFB - I guess that's why you bought a FFB stick - to use FFB ? ).

Cheers.

I have a M$FFB as well and IMO you should always turn off the FFB effects in lockon. With FFB set to true the controls become less precise when adding minute stick inputs which just irritates me. And that's not to mention the odd way in which the stick is pulled forward or backwards when adjusting pitch trim.

Anyway I have always had the opposite problem and that is the centering forces are stuck on the maximum settings and no matter what I adjust it never seems to help, so I have to use a separate piece of software which I'll explain in a second.

First try this: http://forum.lockon.ru/showpost.php?p=65263&postcount=4

If that doesn't work then try the attached file and use either 3beta or 4 beta it really doesn't matter. It doesn't install so you can try it out with no risk to your PC or install. All you have to do is run rtc then run lockon and either in game or before you click fly press F10 to engage RTC then F6 to lessen the centering force or F7 to strengthen the centering force. This does mean you'll have to reassign keys from F5 to F10 in game because you cant adjust keys for RTC .. I use the Numpad keys so F10 becomes numpad 0, F5 becomes keypad 5 etc. RTC was designed for M$ racing wheel but it also solves the centering force issues a lot Sidewinder users have. I like it because I can adjust the forces on the fly and have a stronger force for Russian planes and a weaker one for US planes with out having to close Lockon and adjust the sidewinder settings.

Fixed it! I tried changing the settings in the contactor.cfg but to no avail. Also tried that RTC file but still no centering force what-so-ever. I was starting to get a little agitated so sat back and thought about anything I'd done recently that could have messed my stick settings up. Then I remembered a couple of days ago I gave my pc and desk area a good clean and had unplugged everything in the process. When connecting everything up again I'd somehow swapped usb ports for my stick and CH throttle. Swapped them round again and BINGO! This obviously affects some games more than others, seeing as all was normal in other games.

Thank you Cosmonaut for your help. That RTC file is very useful and I have been experimenting with it to find the ideal set-up for each aircraft. BTW, I disabled force feedback for the same reasons you did as I use my hat for trim. I bought this stick originally to use with IL2 but like it so much I use it in all my sims. Shame the feedback can't be better tweaked in Lockon though.

Maybe that's to do with how you have your deadzones & curves set up ?

This (according to a post I remember reading that I think came from a dev,) is apparently how the trim works on Russian planes - when you trim the plane, the stick's neutral position moves

Cheers.

Nah I've tried everything. It works perfect with FFB set to false but as soon as I turn it on I notice a lack of control. I think I can describe it best by saying things get a little wild especially in pitch. It's not a huge difference and it can go unnoticed but there's definitely a lack of control.

Hmm that makes no sense. You trim to center the stick so you don't have to keep applying forward or backwards pressure. If trimming is going to force the stick forward/backwards then whats the point in trimming? In IL2 I can trim until the stick centers and I can feel through the forces that the plane is perfectly trimmed out, the same thing for FS9 but in LO trimming just produces a force that drags the stick forwards which just feels .. well stupid lol .
