ESCOMM_Miranda Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 Hello guys, i'm doing a fictional skin for my squadrom and i want to make like it's a "real usn squad" but there's two letters on the tail that i don't know what they mean. So i want to know what they represent so i can figure out what letters that i'm going to use in my skin Here is an exemple of what and talking about, in this case it's the big NK on the tail
Frederf Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Navy_and_U.S._Marine_Corps_Aircraft_Tail_Codes USAF has codes which are often related to where they are based like ED Edwards and AK Alaska but USN/MC seem less direct.
USSInchon Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 USN/USMC tail lettering is based on which fleet they are in and what airwing they are in. "All Navy squadrons stationed on aircraft carriers in the Atlantic Fleet have a tail code starting with the letter "A." Pacific Fleet squadrons start with the letter "N." The pattern for Marine Corps squadrons is not quite as clear but units on the east coast often start with a letter in the first half of the alphabet while those on the west coast often start with a letter in the second half." http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/history/q0301.shtml
