Ok, So I gave VR a try with the HTC Vive and Oh.. my.. God.. This is the closes I'll ever come to sitting in a 30 million dollar machine without being arrested.

But, sitting is all I can do right now. My hands are controlled by the controller and I can NOT figure out how to do anything but click with my finger. Nothing else. Can't grab the sick, can't right click which is important. Can't do anything useful but left clicks and even that sometimes doesn't work.

Where can I find information how to proper use the hands as controllers?

Palm up, blue laser, right click

Palm down, green laser, left click.

Try the mini-joystick y-axis on knobs. I am not able to manipulate throttle or stick with controller (not in 2.5.3 anyway).

Dunno if you're using Open Beta version, but since dec 19 patch, with my Oculus Rift controllers, push buttons and switches now works when touching them, just feels a bit clumsy as i am too close to lots of obstacle as i play close to my desk etc..

anyways all i did was making a fist with only the index finger out, and sligtly put the finger on the switches instead of pointing them from distance with the laser beams, when a knob having your fist done it's like having the right click presses actualy, so it rolls the knobs you touch if you leave on it or move as per clockwise or counter clockwise, like the CRS switch you move the switch the direction you want and leave it for the tine you want,IE, move it left and keep it left, the crs will turn.... hard to explain, i tried once for the heck of it cuZ i read it was possible now since last patch, but i don'T use it. But it feels so freaking cool able to press the buttons on the UFC and DDIs :) But stick and throttles won'T be part of it... anyways, not sure i would like the virtualy hold a stick, nothing like the real feeling of holding a physical stick and throttle, specialy in VR.. and not to mention, what would you look like if someone passes over your window, and see you in VR, having both hands below your desk, once center between your legs and the otehr one close by and rocking back and forth :P

If someone sees you through your window in VR, hopefully they can see your monitor also and see you're playing a bad ass flight simulator. Then they would wish they were doing the same.

I figured out the left click/right click. But I can not rotate the knobs at all. Do you know of a video or documentation that exist?

As for using a real joystick and throttle compared to the VR controllers, the VR controllers makes most setups easier. For example, I have a desk that my real joystick sits on. When its time to grab the real joystick, I have to put my VR controllers down, anytime I need to drop the VR controllers I'm making my sim experience more difficult.

On top of that, my desk can get in the way of reaching for certain VR buttons. This also holds true with a chair attached Throttle. It gets in the way of your VR controller.

But if the VR Controller also controlled your joystick and throttle, I do not have to drop anything. I can keep both hands on the same controller and quickly switch between holding the joystick and flicking buttons.

For the record, I've been a VR Dev for architectural since 2016 and I'm fully aware of setting up a Vive controller. I can easily see how they could implement the controller to also serve as a joystick and throttle control. Not sure why they haven't yet. Or at least made it option for the end-user to decide.

You might also want to check out this thread, its shaping up to be a great solution for using in-cockpit switches along with keeping your traditional controllers as well.
