KalAbaddon Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 how smart are the radar guided missiles in game (or IRL)? more for sams then A2A, Does the missile predict where your heading or just always flying towards you, like will it attempt to intercept you at a updated point ahead of the target? does it vary depending on how far off angle the radar of the missile can aim?
Py Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Radar guided missiles predict an intercept point ahead of you based on the speed and distance of you and them, and will attempt to meet you there. Some modern ones are smart enough to avoid the ground if you are diving, but older ones will just attempt the intercept anywhere (even if the predicted point is underground). IR guided missiles don't know your distance or speed, only the angle to you, so most guide based on proportional navigation or some variant of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportional_navigation I don't know how accurately they are modelled in DCS relative to real life, but I would guess those two basic principles are used in game.
