arturojgt Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 (edited) Hi guys. I'm a true fan of the AV8B, I love the SEAD missions but let me tell you that I hate SA-8. I can manage an S300 just peaking enough over a mountain, lock, fire and go down again but no with an SA-8. It appears in my RWR, but I can't lock on it with a sidearm, I can only see a pair of missiles coming at me and with luck pass evade them. Why I can't lock on SA-8? all the system are set correctly, the sidearm is seeking but no growling tone. Suggestions? Edited January 26, 2019 by arturojgt Arturo "Chaco" Gonzalez Thomas
Captain Orso Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 I've been smashing SA-8's, actually Osa's, all week. Trying to sneak up on them at low level is the wrong strategy. Sidearms already have range advantage over SA-8's, and the higher you are when you launch the longer their range, because the Sidearms use gravity to increase their speed and flight time. Besides, IF the Osa manages to launch an SA-8 at you, your best tactic is always to dive at 90° from the SA-8. You gain speed, and it has to make a sharper turn. Additionally while you are evading, your Sidearm is still racing toward the Osa launcher, and as soon as the Sidearm hits, the Osa losed it's control over the SA-8, and I think the SA-8 self destructs. Try running in on the Osa at a minimum of 10k. Once your fired the Sidearm, turn off 90° and dive for the ground, leaving a trail of chaff behind you until RWR stops reporting a track on you. EDIT BTW the growling IS the lock tone. When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs. arturojgt Posted January 26, 2019 Author Posted January 26, 2019 Thank you buddy, a perfect lesson on SA-8. Thank for the telling me about “growling” meaning. Sent from my Tornado IDS while on autopilot using Tapatalk Pro. Arturo "Chaco" Gonzalez Thomas
