Russia is reportedly planning to run a national test on its own infrastructure as part of an effort to ‘unplug’ from the internet. That’s according to Russian news agency RosBiznesKonsalting, which made the announcement last week. The goal of the experiment is to provide feedback and gather insight on how the Russian national intranet would perform if severed from the main internet backbone, ZDNet reports. Russia’s data localization requirements were a topic of some discussion in 2018, after the country passed laws requiring companies that provide service to Russian customers to physically locate their servers within Russia itself. These laws were widely viewed as a means of ensuring the Russian government can seize the servers its citizens’ data is stored on in the event that it wishes to do so. Sometimes it says EAGLE.RU and sometimes it's EAGLE SA SUISSE on the bank account, I thought there was a switch to EAGLE SA SUISSE but then the .RU shown up again, maybe it depends on the product, so maybe some products won't be available for purchase at the time? While the bulk of the download is using bittorrent, the metadata/verification probably uses the http master servers which are only in Russia right? So if those are down then you won't be able to update/download modules right? Since the offline mode was introduced and has like I think it is 3 days max, it shouldn't be that much of a problem, unless the test comes right on when a patch is going to be released but I guess this will be purposelly avoided then.
