I'm curious - I know that a fair few planes in Lock On have a thrust/weight ratio greater than 1, and should therefore be able to accelerate vertically. No matter how hard I try though, I can't seem to do it.... Is the thrust of the engines in the sim fudged at all?

Yes it is, but on the other hand, so is the perception that these things can accelerate vertically ... they can, but not very far.
