AI Wingman issues

I have no idea if this has been addressed before, I searched high and low in the forum for an answer but to no avail so might as well just bring it up just in case I missed something.

I'm having terrible issues with my F18C Wingman, he follows simple formation changes normally and all that but whenever I tell him to "Engage bandits" the reply is always "Unable." He is beyond useless in a dogfight or BVR engagements and is always shot down.

 

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there any fix or workaround to possibly have him engage bandits?

Hi there,

 

Engage bandits only works when HE detects enemy aircraft. If so he will report them. Then you can order engage bandits. In the situation you describe I order Cover me. Then he will engage any enemy that threatens me. This, I think, includes a bandit that just locks you up with radar. You just have to watch where he goes because with this command he goes a bit berserk and can fly across the map. Rejoin fixes.

 

Hope this helps you. And it doesn't change the fact that the AI is in need of attention.

Hey Redeye, Thanks for the reply!

 

I do order him to cover me and he confirms that he will but he ends up getting shot down somehow so I review the TACVIEW and find him just following me like an idiot and then proceeds to gets shot down. He doesn’t engage he’s absolutely useless, Idk whats up because i used to fly the A10C and the AI was way better and would follow orders and was of great use to me and would help out in missions.

 

In the F18C he’s just a missile magnet unfortunately.

 

Glad Im not the only one though experiencing issues, I hope they fix it soon. Theres also a lot of missing stuff like I can’t tell him to “Fence In” or any of that extra stuff; I hope we can get a fix or something soon.

Hey,

 

I think that the cover me order might be suicidal if he gets attacked and not you? He is ready to deal with threats to you and ignores threats to himself? Persenally I had him attack just fine.
