SidDogg Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 (edited) Hello, all. Good Day. Been playing DCS for a long while, but I'm new to the forums here. Since this is the Bug section, I'm bringing up an issue I see with the visual appearance of the Horizontal stabilators on the 3D model, as well as issues with Pitch Control when using the keyboard to fly. To begin: Shouldn't the horizontal stabs at least DROOP by a few degrees? I have uploaded examples (on the deck with no stress from airflow, and also airborne). Additionally, when I utilize keyboard flight control, are my pitch inputs supposed to leave the horizontal stabs stuck at whichever amount of input I move them to? As it stands, regular Pitch control on keyboard mode is working more like trim...so i tried mapping trim to see if the behavior matches. It does! Long story short...when I make pitch control inputs, shouldn't the control column return to CENTER once i release inputs to the keyboard? You know, the same way that Roll control does right now Could somebody get at me about that? Because maybe I'm wrong. Thanks. SidDogg Edited March 18, 2019 by SidDogg
Deano87 Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 That is indeed the way pitch control works on KB. Otherwise you would go from no pitch input to full back stick and rip the wings off, so this graduated response gives you some fine control over pitch, saying all that though please do yourself a favour and get yourself even a cheap joystick as flying with keyboard is a painful experience lol. As far as the horizontal stabs drooping? Er maybe when the jet is off on the ground but in flight the horizontal stabs are producing a tail down/nose up force most of the time to counteract the pitch down force as a result of the centre of lift being behind the centre of gravity like most conventional aircraft. This downward force means the position of the stab trailing edge would be upwards. I can’t see any of the pictures you linked to so I’m not quite sure what you mean. I’ve attached a pic showing normal stab position during landing. You can see it’s trailing edge up. SidDogg Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 With respect, I'm not talking about the stab rotation on the X axis. I'm referring to the lateral droop in relation to the Y axis. It is easier to notice when viewing a head-on or a rearward profile. I have also posted this in the Bug Report area of this particular forum. As I was unable to transfer the picture attachments to this post, I invite you to see the post, perhaps you will see what I mean. SidDogg
Deano87 Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 ohhh right, in that direction, you mean dihedral/anhedral etc? Yeah you may have a point. I just found this pic which does show a few degrees of anhedral on the tail. Haven’t checked the sim version to see if it replicates it or not though. SidDogg Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 All you gotta do is look at the (now) plethora of videos on YouTube... Additionally, about the pitch control. I DO believe I am not only speaking for myself. Many keyboard users out there, I imagine. I remember that the pitch was never stuck that way with the SU-25, A-10, F-86 or the F-15 before...and people will find that it is better to be able to center the stick automatically, ESPECIALLY in an engagement. I am currently on a business trip abroad, by the way...my X55 is back home  SidDogg

kengou Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Regarding keyboard... this game is simply not designed for it. The functionality is there in a pinch but I wouldn't recommend flying with a keyboard to anybody. I don't really see a problem with this.
