BullsEye Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 First of all sorry for my english...i'll try to do the best. i follow this game from the first day (i have LOMAC and then FC) but i spent just few hours playng due to excessive lag, low fps, configuration problem etc etc. In any case i'm hoping that black shark (and the new computer technologies) can result in a good simulation/playing expreince in the very near future (i hope before the end of the year?!?!?!). i have just few questions: - the graphics in lockon was very fantastic at the beginnig, but we are talking about 3 years ago....now black shark will be "updated" and can it comparable with the last software generation (GRAW2, BF2142, etc etc)?? for example the ground texture from LOMAC trought FC has not changed and is not very good...is poor, flat and whitout details; same for the trees. How the ED are managing this aspects (also considering that with KA-50 you will spend a lot of time close to the ground)? That's all for the moment...i have other questions but we can discuss later. Thanks
britgliderpilot Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 A flight sim will never quite measure up to a first-person shooter in terms of the detail you can fit on the ground . . . . simply because the areas a flight sim must cover are much, much bigger. Armed Assault, for example, has fantastic graphics at ground level - but you try flying over it in a helicopter or a fast mover, and see how much visible range you have with the fog cutting it out. And even then it slows modern systems to a crawl . . . . In terrain with fifty million trees and countless pylons, buildings, rivers . . . well, the memory requirements alone if at modern FPS level would be beyond the abilities of current bleeding-edge graphics cards. Efforts are underway to ensure that Black Shark is a definite improvement over FC in terms of the ground terrain - some of the testers have suggested their own improvements, and TekaTeka (known for his scenery tweaks) recently joined the beta team to see if he can work some of his magic into BS before release :) So the graphics in Black Shark will be improved over Flaming Cliffs, but it'll be an incremental improvement rather than a quantum leap. Some improvements have been investigated and discarded (Speedtree, for example), some are still being investigated, and some more will probably make into products after Black Shark. The good news is that flying low down in a helicopter you don't need anything like the visible range you do in a fast-mover - if you're flying the Ka50 you can turn the visible range right down for more FPS without losing any sense of immersion :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
BullsEye Posted August 14, 2007 Author Posted August 14, 2007 Thanks for the promptly reply. I agree with you about the difference between a First Person Shooter and a Flightsim but as you describe if you flight with an helicopter the visual range will be smaller...so i expect a "scalable" software that could increase/decrease the details take into account the field of view of the player. In any case...i will wait for BS...and i hope in a DEMO to test the software.
mcnab Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 BullsEye let me just comment on your thread title: There is no such thing as stupid questions. Just stupid answers.
