3DS crashes when I apply a material

Hi ive recently.. Sorrttt of learned how to skin in 3ds. but when I go to apply the wire material before the map 3ds crashes and just goes "do you want to send error report?"

 

It will let me throw materials onto a plane but not onto any object in the studio that ive created.

 

Any ideas? Maybe a solution? :)
