chris1837 Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Hi Everyone, I recently purchased Lock On Modern Air Combat Gold and only installed the first disc, since I had so much trouble with Starforce from another game I previously loaded and uninstalled. GTI Racing or some such. Anyway, I already updated with the latest patch but, the game will not start and never has. I get the sounds of starting and then an error report is generated. I'm running Windows XP Media Center on an Asus Striker Extreme MB with an Intel 6750 Core 2 Duo and 2 Gigs of ram. The video card is also an Asus product EN8800GTS 640. Using a 42" DLP Samsung TV as a monitor with a max resolution of 1280x720. I also have all the latest drivers installed for all the hardware. I have been searching and reading all day and have found nothing that helps. I really don't care about the add-on extras of disc two but, would like to play LOMAC as I've read it is a very good flight simulator. Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely,
SuperKungFu Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Well you said you updated to the latest patch, which version did you update to exactly? Because the latest version is 1.12b, but from the sounds of it, you didn't install FC, which is required to get up to 1.12b. So you should have installed 1.02 for the original Lock On. chris1837 Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 I did indeed install V1.02 but just installed the first disc with LOMAC on it. As I understood FC was an add on to the original. It seemed even more so this since both discs have separate installs. Are you saying that the first disc will only work if I install FC and Starforce? If that is the case then I guess I just wasted $25.00 because I won't install anything with Starforce on it again. Long story short. I didn't even know of SF and thought I just had chosen some poor hardware. Due to some issues I had early on with this new build. Looking at games to get and I happened to read about SH3, since I like Sub Sims as well, and some issues with SF. I didn't think I even I had it on my machine but had installed a racing game that came with my video card... GTI Racing. It was lame so I uninstalled it. I started having all sorts of BSD's and failure to loads from my drives, both of them, of games that had loaded before... ...along with the LCD Poster flashing while the machine was powered up. I do have a burner and some disc making software but haven't used it yet. I plan of making some movie and picture DVD's of my little girl for the grandparents to enjoy who live too far away to visit often. I don't bother trying to copy games or rip music as a rule. I did make some MP3's to listen to on the computer but that's about it. Just too much headache and usually much easier to just buy them outright. I never really had a problem with copyright protections before or even cared. Anyway, once I found I did have SF on my machine I removed it and all was right with the world again. Other games loaded as before, no more flashing LCD poster and no more BSD's. So, I don't really have any interest in loading anything with Starforce on this machine again... ...or do any special dancing to get something to work. If there is no other way to play the game then it's just my tough luck and I'll look more closely at other the games before buying them. So, how about it? Can I just run the 1st disc and only LOMAC or no?
SuperKungFu Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 yes you can just run the 1st disc, which is the original 1.00 lock on, and install the 1.02 patch. That should work. FC is an addon, so if you don't wish to install that, that's up to you. But personally i say FC is heck of a lot better than the original. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
chris1837 Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 Have any ideas on why it won't load? I get the startup sounds, no screen at all and then a send error to MS message comes up. Then it shuts back down. I've un and reinstalled it along with the patches. I wondered if there might be a problem with me using the TV as my monitor but, none of the other games loaded so far are giving me a problem. It should run on XP, right? The only thing left I know to do is try changing compatabilty... ...NT, 95, 98 or 2k?
SuperKungFu Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 yes it does run on XP. Maybe it has something to do with the TV, like the refreash rate is wrong or something. I dunno if you want to try this or not. but install the original lock on + FC and the latest 1.12b patch. If you still have problems, then uninstall everything and you can even remove the starforce driver using the tools on lockon.ru. The installation process for FC is 1.00 original (no patch) 1.1 FC 1.12b. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
chris1837 Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 Yeah, I may try it and already have the SF removal tool from the last episode. I do only have 2 refresh rates... ...59MHz and 60MHz. chris1837 Posted August 31, 2007 Author Posted August 31, 2007 Solved... After much searching and reading, I uninstalled and reinstalled the 1st disc and V1.02 patch. Then I went nosing around in the configuration files. I went into the graphics configuration file and changed all the resolution settings to 1280x720 and once the game launched I reset the resolution lower under options so the screen wasn't distorted... Now maybe I'll get some stick time in. Thanks for listening.
