Thick8 Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 (edited) I finally opened up my WH to lube it. Found the O-ring had migrated to above its installed position that was below the lip that holds the gimbal in place. After determining its purpose I ended up just removing it. I kept it and may try to match it to a proper dust seal and install the seal. I also sanded and polished the gimble and pins as per the many video instruction. I always felt that the centering pressure was too great even with a 3” extension installed. I first tried moving the 4 shaft springs to above the swashplate but that made the action too light. So after testing the tension of the main spring I decided to cut 1 of the loops out of it. I used bolt cutters to take the flat loop off and then used a little propane torch and a pair of pliers to heat and bend a new flat loop in place. Now the tension is just right for me. The stick will pretty much hold its position anywhere I set it but will move back to center when near the center point. This is especially useful when flying and having to manipulate switches and dials. txmtb Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 You can order a replacemnt O Ring and replacement springs in different tensions from: https://warthog-extensions-by-sahaj.com/product-category/silicon-o-rings/ - There was also someone at one point making teflon replacement O Rings iirc. There are several posts in the forum about cutting down the springs also. Supmua Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 why Doesn’t any cut the spring in the WH stick? Another way to reduce the tension is by modding the lower springs with stronger or longer ones (I added an extra spring to each of the columns). Using extension tube also has similar effect. I keep hearing Virpil and VKB bases are light years ahead of the Warthog. No they are not, after the spring mod, based on personal experiences as I own all except the new T50CM base. Once modded properly, they all feel very similar in terms of performance. PC: 5800X3D/4090, 11700K/3090, 9900K/2080Ti. That makes me feel even better... All of my posted work, ideas and contributions are licensed under the Creative Commons - Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0,) which precludes commercial use but encourages sharing and building on for non-commercial purposes, ©John Muldoon
