terrydew Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 I have read the manual, and searched the NATOPS for information on the HUD symbols as shown in the screen shot. I am referring to the screenshot below showing the lines in a radial pattern with AE, 49, 49 and 49 on top of the lines. They appear when Tacan is used and start bunched together at the top of the HUD when you are distant from the boat and than spread out around a circle as you get closer. Once you past the boat they move forwards the bottom of the HUD becoming a line at the bottom once you are a good distance from the boat. I am a newbie so if this is explained somewhere, please point me to it. Thanks for yOurhelp Gent
Silversmith Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 Its the RWR symbology in the HUD. Look on the EWR MFD page, there is a button for toggling the symbols on or not on the HUD. AE is an Aegis naval radar, 49 is a type 49 destroyer . The lines show you the direction and the length of the line the threat level.
Nagilem Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 These symbols coincide to radar signatures on your RWR. They give you a HUD representation of the general direction of the radar that is active. Top of the hud is in front of you, bottom is behind. Hope that's clear. :pilotfly: Specs: I9-9900k; ROG Strix RTX 2080ti; Valve Index HMD; 32GB DDR4 3200 Ram; Samsung 970 EVO 1TB SSD; TM Warthog with pedals, 3 TM MFDs
aaron886 Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 (edited) This one might be a little too simple to warrant a forum post. Check the manual for EW HUD indications. 49 is the indication in DCS for the AN/SPY-49, on the frigates of the carrier battle group in your mission. Pretty sure AE is supposed to mean AEGIS in DCS, a seaborne air defense network primarily featuring the AN/SPY-1. Edit: beat to the punch. Silversmith: I think you're crossing some wires there, thinking of the British Type 45 perhaps. Never heard of a Type 49. Edited June 11, 2019 by aaron886

terrydew Posted June 11, 2019 Author Posted June 11, 2019 Thanks everyone. I looked all over under Tacan but obviously looking in wrong place.
