Rossterman Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 wanting to move from desktop use to building a mount that will put the stick between my legs for more realistic (and comfortable) flying. What is the typical warthog extension length folks use to mount this way? Is there a proper level to the top of the stick should set at relative to body position or specific measurement directions to determine what is needed? Quadg Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 if you put the stick base on a chair and sit on the base to keep it still, then the stick is actually the right length for flying while resting your arm on your thigh. so I removed the springs instead of getting an extension, to increase the precision. an extension would be too long and uncomfortable. due to medical problems I need to change seating position on long flights. which is why I don't nail down the stick to a mount. and it works well for me. Space Cadet Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 I’m not an expert (at anything) but I think the type of aircraft you prefer to fly will have some influence on the feel and input swing of your joystick. I personally fly about 95% Huey and after considerable time playing with springs and lengths, I have settled on having the TW base in standard spring configuration, with a 150mm extension works perfectly for me. However, if your thinking something like an F-16 is more your flavour, this 150mm extension will provide far too much control swing movement. Oldahpilot Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 I would certainly agree that the forarm should rest on the thigh with helicopters, it takes away the strain and restricts control movement to stop over controlling. Generally the faster you're flying the less movement is required. The longer the extension the more movement is required to achieve the same deflection of the flying controls.
