tmdgm Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Since the SARH's like sparrows get the info from the base plane, is it worth ripple firing them because once the base plane loses lock, you lose both missiles? At least for an amraam, there's hope for the second missile.
mcnab Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Between 15 sec intervals maybe, but you still have to maintain the lock all the way.
Mugatu Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 On the stats side yes because it increases your probability of kill. Pkcum = 1 - (1- Pk)**n where Pk = missile Pk n = number of missiles fired. so say the 7m has a pk of .15 in lockon then a salvo of 2 missiles will have a pk of: .2775 or 27.75 % chance of a kill. The problem in lockon though is the low pk of the missiles and the abilitly of a tgt to beam you and break lock even though the Signal to Noise ratio of the main beam should be very high for the range of the target. ie no returns from the ground within the range resolution of the antenna. Just because a tgt is lower than you shouldn't course a break lock.
tmdgm Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 Yeah, AI planes seem to lose radar break fairly often. Doesn't seem to be worth ripple firing cuz it's a good chance he will break lock. If he doesn't break lock, then 1 missile usually does the job.
