Olliecast Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Hi all, Thought I’d share my progress to date on my vr cockpit build I’m using my Saitek throttle quadrant at the minute but will be modifying it to make it more spitfire like to the touch It’s worth considering that I’m building this for feel more than looks as i use an oculus rift s First of all, I purchased the plans for a replica mkix seat. I made some templates out of some old floor boards by measuring and drawing out from the 2d dimensions I had Jon at Spitsim was kind enough also to include the plans to position my stick and spade grip at 12 degrees when trimmed in level flight. This is the area you can see in front of the seat where the base of the ffb2 will sit The seat was then jigsawed out from 18mm plywood and I used screws and wood glue to assemble. Jon again helped with the correct distance from the floor and I modified an old chair to achieve this It still needs painting and I’ll be making a cushion to help simulate the parachute that the pilots used to sit on
Olliecast Posted August 10, 2019 Author Posted August 10, 2019 The next stage was to get the spadegrip that Jon at spitsim has developed. It has fully functioning buttons for guns, cannon and dual firing plus a level or the rear for the wheel brakes. It’s also got a mechanical safety switch as you can see in the video. Fabulous engineering Jon did a fantastic job of helping with the mounting on the ffb2 base. The video below shows this excellent bit of kit. The tub is optimised to mirror the throw of the spit colours albeit without the mod pivot. It’s made out of titanium tube to keep it lighter I then also added a switch in place of the optical sensor to activate the ffb and also did the smd resistors mod which was a very delicate operation but I measured the before and after resistance and it worked very well. The pictures below show this Had my first flight last night and the experience is absolutely fantastic! Will feedback more as I get in the air again tonight I’m burning skies (I’m Ollie in there) Any questions please let me know ????
Spitty Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Lovely work. Not long just uploaded a heap of Spit throttle parts to my Shapeways store.
Olliecast Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 Lovely work. Not long just uploaded a heap of Spit throttle parts to my Shapeways store. I will pm you shortly as I need a throttle and mixture control lever :)
Sokol1_br Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 It’s also got a mechanical safety switch as you can see in the video. https://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=215257&d=1565448791 First "BBC" fire button copy with working safety switch that I saw. Generally metal or 3D printed "replicas" available ignore this detail.
Spitty Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 Easy enough to design something up to complete my B type Spade gun button.

Generally metal or 3D printed "replicas" available ignore this detail. It really is fantastic Something I didn’t mention is the parking brake latch is also modelled I’m just getting used to the throw and stopping blacking out, but certainly have more control compared to the standard stick Will keep updating as it develops!

Yes, I think that one who want this very specific designs want that work just like the real, not just a "display" copy. The safety mechanism is interesting. Source. Other detail only now being add in some "replica" throttles is the internal detent warning the boost area on Mk.IX throttle.
