I’m seeking a guide or documentation that details the AI wingman commands while in game. I know what the majority of them mean and do, but some involving engagement are vague and hardly used by me, because I don’t know what they do, what to expect, does it work at all, etc.

I’ve checked the DCS manual and couldn’t find anything in the TOC. There is plenty detailing the ME commands and options, but nothing for in game and I think for a very good reason. Each aircraft has a different commands list for wingman.

My interests are simply to increase my engagement coordination and allow my wingman to live a bit longer.

I've made some observations with the pincer command, but still unclear of its usefulness or correct implementation. Sometimes when ordered, -2 will make a slight turn in direction ordered then maintain previous formation (which is useless). Other times -2 will break into the direction and complete the maneuver quite well.

Also, when commanded this maneuver -2 will not fire any ordinance. So is this meant to be used as a tactic to confuse the enemy into the merge?

Obviously you shouldn't use this BVR. I don't know. I need guidance with using this feature.

I don't know of a detailed guide, but the commands can be kind of clunky.

I used to use Pincer to get wingmen to spread before an engagement against multiple enemies (example if I'm 2 ship vs 4 ship, pincer would separate the fight into 2 2 v 1 engagements). At some point it started working differently and I stopped using it. You also need to give the order to attack separately like you mentioned, so it was also kind of cumbersome.

What I do more often now is lock an enemy and tell a specific wingman to engage, then I'll maneuver myself if I want to pincer or something similar.

The only real advice I can give is to practice/experiment with commands in simple situations to learn what they'll do. AI is being revamped at some point and hopefully the commands will be updated at that time too.

Awaiting: DCS F-15C

Thank you for your input. Do you know what reconnaissance does for the 18? Can’t figure out that command.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you tell your wing-man no 2, the pilot closest to you to "cover me" they will attack any aircraft attacking or focusing on you. You can send the other wing-men, 3 and 4 to mix it up with the ENY while you maneuver for your own position.

I don't know what that does. The DCS user manual might have a brief description at the end (I think it's the user manual and not the individual module manuals that has the list). I didn't mention the manual before because the information it gives is pretty sparse if I remember.

Yeah, I tried looking in there and did see anything. It has plenty about commands from the ME, but commands in the game seem nonexistent.

Does that include before the merge?

Yes as far as I remember. That has been at least my experience. They will cover you and go after anyone going after you. I used it the other night testing a mission I was working on and my number two did what I asked.

It probably does nothing yet in the hornet. I only know so far that it does something for the KA-50. The wingman will scout ahead and send you all targets he sees over the datalink.

I can't remember if this feature is available in the A-10C...

I don't recall seeing it either, which would make more sense for the A-10C. I dunno.
