Kev2go Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 (edited) I havent played the FC3 in some time., but i noticed the F15C got Aim7E added recently? Why does a F15C MSIP 2 have a Vietnam era AIm7E when not only did the F15A enter operational use in 1976 but even the F15A documentation such as the manuals themselves does not reference and earlier sparrow type than the Aim7F, let alone the F15C Edited December 27, 2019 by Kev2go Build: Windows 10 64 bit Pro Case/Tower: Corsair Graphite 760tm ,Asus Strix Z790 Motherboard, Intel Core i7 12700k ,Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 64gb ram (3600 mhz) , (Asus strix oc edition) Nvidia RTX 3080 12gb , Evga g2 850 watt psu, Hardrives ; Samsung 970 EVo, , Samsung evo 860 pro 1 TB SSD, Samsung evo 850 pro 1TB SSD, WD 1TB HDD
TaxDollarsAtWork Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 If I am not mistaken the earliest A and C blocks had the capability to with some modification use the AIM-7E2 Sparrow https://books.google.com/books?id=uhyIC2oX3t4C&pg=RA1-PA596&lpg=RA1-PA596&dq=aim-7e2&source=bl&ots=zTRBs2neQY&sig=ACfU3U0XN7SlZGhQCXVwnWdBwpX8FZaF4g&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjqgq3O4NbmAhXUZc0KHbs5DbIQ6AEwGHoECAgQAQ#v=onepage&q=aim-7e2&f=false this DoD report mentions it

They said it was considered because it could be done with little modification by to quote the very same source from just paragragh lower " not planned to use" and is also mentioned Aim7E2 was not in production since 1971, and that there was no point as from henceforth the Aim7F was expected to enter production and be the new primary missile. Ultimately It never did, as F15A -34 shows only Aim7F at earliest is authorized. Therefore if F15A isn't using Aim7E2 ( let vanilla Aim7E) then surely an F15C post MSIP 2 a isn't using any of those neither. TaxDollarsAtWork Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 I was wrong on the sub variant but the AIM-7E4 was made to be compatible with 4th gens of the 1970s and 80s though it's not usually mentioned in the -34
TeamMaximus Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 I was a Weapon Control Systems (WCS) mechanic (radar fixer) back in the late 70's, and 1980's on the F-4E and F-4G Phantoms. We had the AIM-7E until the F-15's came along, then the F-4E/G AN/APQ-120(V)1 radar was upgraded with a digital replacement (by Texas Instruments) for the old Target Intercept Computer, and made compatible with the AIM-7F (which came in with the F-15's). Our jets got the ARN-101 digital INS system at the same time. The first F-15A/B's went into service at Langley AFB in 1976, and the AIM-7F was delivered at the same time. I don't recall hearing that the F-15's could carry the AIM-7E.
