SmoglessPanic Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 I just recently discovered this mode since I thought it wasn't implemented at all yet. Curious to know if anyone is also using the TGP for air to air. So far in my trials I am finding it useful for ID beyond visual but it doesn't slew to locked targets like the manual suggests. Are any of you guys also using the TGP for air to air or do you consider it too much of a hassle and not worth the effort at this point?
Wu70 Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 but it doesn't slew to locked targets like the manual suggests. So how do you use it? Manually looking for a target in the air? :D
SmoglessPanic Posted January 24, 2020 Author Posted January 24, 2020 (edited) Well, the TGP looks ahead 3 degrees or so above the nose, with some practice I noticed this is just above the gun-sight. How far above the gun-sight depends on the targets distance so at about 40 miles its about 6-8 degrees above the gun-sight. You can't lock him at that range but if he is heading towards you or away for you you can put the TGP into "Rates' mode and it locks to a point in space. Given the lack of relative side motion you can pretty much keep an eye on the target. Within 20 miles you can lock an aircraft with the TGP (TMS Up) and it will stay locked and stabilized on him unless you mask. It's really interesting, I used the Aim 9-X / Aim 120 instant action missions to practice using the TGP. Almost forgot, I set the TGP to the OSB's that are empty if that makes sense. If you click on the optionless OSB's twice you can choose what you want it to display. I do this for every mode except NAV (Dogfight, MRM, AA) so I know when I am in NAV mode. I hope that makes sense. Edited January 24, 2020 by SmoglessPanic
