In RWS mode, pilot is able to bug HPT and SPT, and enter DTT, just like in TWS. Not sure if this is meant to be or is a bug. Could not find explanation in manual. Thks.

AFAIK that is intended behavior and part of the SAM (situational awareness mode) mode you get in RWS.

Note how you keep getting updates about other contacts instead of going straight into STT when bugging someone in RWS, if you designate the bugged contact again you go into STT mode.

He means bugging TWO targets in RWS. I think it's only supposed to track one in RWS.

Which as far as i am aware is intended behavior as a feature of the radar.

How exactly it does it i'm not sure though.

Presumably it alternates between scanning both the bugged targets and sweeping for situational awareness, a hybrid of RWS and TWS if you will.

If someone with more insight can correct me that's fine,

i just haven't seen it being questioned in any material relating to the module, it was always explained as a feature.

That's correct.

It scans as normal but builds a track for the bugged target.

It does a general RWS sweep, then target scan, RWS sweep, target scan... so it can build a track.

Here's what I'm seeing...

RWS Mode:

1. Bug 1 target - goes SAM/NAM.

2. Bug 2nd target - goes DTT.

3. Able to shoot both targets down with SD10.

(Is DTT intended?)

TWS Mode:

Same as above except no SAM/NAM.

(Seems right.)

STT (in RWS/TWS): Designating the same target a 2nd time to get an STT lock - I find this difficult to do. Sometimes I can get an STT, sometimes I can't and have to unlock to try again. Also, sometimes after failing to get an STT, I find I am unable to bug a 2nd target to get a DTT. I have to unlock the 1st target to try again.

RWS: No, I don't think so.

TWS: Hmm - this maybe explains why I have trouble switching targets without realizing it.

Isn't DTT supposed to be a feature in RWS instead of TWS? If I understood the manual correctly, DTT would do a hard lock on enemies(basically a dual STT). So, TWS shouldn't have this mode available, right?

If we look at DCS F/A-18C, here's how its RWS & TWS works (see diagram).

It would seem the JF-17's RWS has 'LTWS built-in' and seems to support firing of SD-10s even with DTT (STT not required).

As I understood it, to engage multiple targets simultaneously, TWS must be selected, then you bug only once each target (max. 2). Pickle. Enjoy fireworks. RTB.

AFAIK this can't work in RWS because it can only build a track on one bugged target at a time.
