Steam installation disk errors

Hi Ed,

 

I went to download open beta but I'm getting disk writing errors when downloading any version of DCS on steam. It stops with an error stating "DISK WRITING ERROR".

 

Checked the steam content_log.txt and it stops downloading DCS due to failing to write chunk in file for all the pdf flight manuals. I went to the downloading file for steam and checked the pdf manuals and they are all corrupted and can't be opened.

 

It's preventing me from downloading dcs.

As I said try check hdd if there's any errors if it doesn't help try delete them then repair.

If anything help just go for standalone

Like I said, all the pdf doc's being downloaded are all corrupted which halts the installation. I'm forcing it to download but it stops whenever a pdf is downloaded.

 

Only DCS is doing this. No other download is causing this problem

Try run as admin. Don't know.

I had the exact same issue. The following solution worked for me:

 

1. Go to the Steam downloading location where the problem PDFs are: likely to be something like C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\downloading\223750\Doc

2. Make a note of the names of the PDFs (For me the broken files were: DCS User Manual EN 2020.pdf and DCS User Manual RU 2020.pdf)

3. Delete those PDFs (again, make sure you are in 'downloading' directory

4. Copy in some working PDFs (can be anything but I just used a random DCS manual in the main install directory)

5. Rename your new PDFs as the names you made a note of in step 2

6. Continue the Steam download, don't restart (otherwise you'll have to do it again).

Either the Steam server closest to you have cache problems (unlikely), or your disk is failing, or your disk have filesystem-related problem (wrong access rights or data corruption).

I'm not sure if you have the game installed but for those that are experiencing the same problems with the pdf files, turn off your antivirus. The antivirus scans for files and possibly scanned pdf files as potential risk files which corrupts the pdf's.
