VMFA117_Poko Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 But they don't use afterburner in that video... Afterburner doesn't smoke so badly. I saw 4 MiGs in dogfight on airshow in July and I remember ;).
RvETito Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Fisben, tester who is part of the ED Team now is avionics engineer in the MiG company. He said that they make special tunning of the engines for exhibition flights which makes perfect sense- you can see footage of the MiG-29K in naval trials on Kuz where is smokes like hell and this demo flight at MAKS where it doesn't smoke more than any other modern fighter. The engines of the slovak MiGs should be RD-33 2nd or 3rd series if have been overhauled or produced recently. The engine provides excellent performance of the aircraft (stable operation in any condition, thrust, engine acceleration, fuel consumption) but it's week point is the combustion chamber, hence the short TBO and poor reliability. "See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. If you don't know you shouldn't be flying." - Chuck Yeager, from the back seat of F-15D at age 89. =RvE=
Poko please translate :) Give me "flying telephone pole" (SA-2)!

Poko please translate :)Kusch. Juz to napisalem wyzej :D Kusch. I already wrote it above :D @Boberro But it smokes so badly only on low rpm IIRC. Polish MiG drivers from Malbork used this disadvantage once as advantage when trained CAC with german(?) pilots to cheat about their position. Smoking isn't so dangerous when going low either. Not so easy to spot it on terrain background.
VMFA117_Poko Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Fisben, tester who is part of the ED Team now is avionics engineer in the MiG company.(...) He's in the team? That's good. He's really helpfull guy with huge knowledge. I spoke with him once or twice via PM about fonts used on all gauges and ILS (HUD). Good to hear he's closer to the devs. It's good for future DCS mods like MiG-29 :D.
