pchRage Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Spent/Spend so much time optimizing for 90hz and only sitting at 45fps 99% of time... Going to try out cutting settings even more and seeing if I can hold the 60fps split from 120Hz. Idea being that maybe 60fps reducing ghosting > a few eye candy pieces. Anyone else try this with any success?
The_Nephilim Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Well the reason there is ghosting is becasuuse of Motion reprojection. to get rid of that you would need to run full frame and if you can not get 90FPS you are definetely not getting 120FPS.. Now if you can get 60FPS with Motion Reprojection it may seem smoother but I dont think it will get rid of the ghosting as MRP/AWS is what causes it.. RedX Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I have tried and my subjective experience is that the ghosting is reduced when fps reaches 60 compared to 45 fps. Probably thanks to shorter prediction time interval. However, fps value jumps around from 60 to lower values and back dynamically and drops on average to lower values. Perhaps the dynamic switching takes some computation time. Also, I found that it was more steady and comfortable to have 45fps most of the time using "force half frame rate" option with 90hz setting than suffering highly variable 40fps-60fps as half or one-third of 120hz. This is subjective and with my detail settings.. sk000tch Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 frequently, usually when i forget to switch back. No doubt solid 60 at 120hz looks better/smoother than 40/80, its just a matter of what you can maintain. I've been playing at 90 most often, as I can get the new lighting effects and msaa x2 and hold 45 but not 60. With things changing as frequently as they have been, it seems I have to re-evaluate after every patch... so my answer could be completely different next week But ya, like almost everything, more is better just a dude who probably doesn't know what he's talking about
pchRage Posted April 21, 2020 Author Posted April 21, 2020 Thanks for the feedback! Worth an hour to try it out and see how it varies.
pchRage Posted April 23, 2020 Author Posted April 23, 2020 yep... in SP i can hold 60ish, but MP, its stuck at 30 no matter what.
