Hi, I’d like to ask around for some opinions about my upgrade plan, please.

Currently I have a i5 2500, 16 GB DDR3, a SSD and a GTX1060 6GB (latest thing I upgraded). There’s nothing left to upgrade on that old PC so next upgrade has to be CPU and mobo (and RAM). The budget is very limited, so no concomitant GPU upgrade.

I play only in VR with a Rift CV1, at almost minimal settings. Only SP and light missions. It’s not too bad but more fps around the supercarrier would be nice and I wouldn’t say no to some eye candy.

So for the next upgrade I’m currently looking at the new i3 10320 because it’s not expensive, it has a rather high clock rate, it has a low TDP (so a few more Watt available for a possible new GPU later) and I don’t have time to fiddle with overclocking anyway. Assuming DCS can’t use more than 4 cores, in theory it should work as well as a 9600k for a little less money, right?

My first question is: what’s the best mobo chipset to go with this CPU, considering that I don’t need overclocking features, that the PC is used only for DCS, and that every penny saved is a penny that can go into a better GPU later?

My second question is: would it make any sense to buy RAM that is more expensive than a plain 16 GB 2666MHz set (the highest clock rate for the 10320 according to Intel) ? What are the odds that today-superfast DDR4 will still be useable in a new build 5 years from now?

Thank you in advance and a nice day to you all.
