markturner1960 Posted June 6, 2020 Posted June 6, 2020 I have mine correctly mapped in DCS ( I think..) for example Gnd power switch 1 A On button 9, Auto button 10, B On button 11. However, trying the new cold start mission by Rudel for the F-18, this does not generate the correct strokes in the sim. What have I done wrong please? Supmua Posted June 6, 2020 Posted June 6, 2020 (edited) I have mine correctly mapped in DCS ( I think..) for example Gnd power switch 1 A On button 9, Auto button 10, B On button 11. However, trying the new cold start mission by Rudel for the F-18, this does not generate the correct strokes in the sim. What have I done wrong please? Those buttons are supposed to stick once press but they don't, and I suspect that the default impulse duration on these input switches is too short (prob default at <50 ms). This doesn't happen with keyboard commands or cockpit mouse click. So I just bind keyboard commands to these switches (joystick gremlin in my case), and they now work correctly. Alternatively, you can probably change the impulse duration in SimAppPro or set a macro to press for 70-80 ms then release, but I have no desire to figure that thing out right now without proper instruction manual. EDIT: Actually upon further testing, only the ground power 1 switch needs to be held down for at least 3 sec which can be tricky. The last time I checked if held for 5 sec it worked without messing around with external app. Make sure it's bound to button 6 of the throttle panel (not 5 which is middle position). So, disregard my previous remarks. Now I don't know if this is going to be 100% consistent. Sometimes a toggle switch just doesn't behave exactly like a button. I’ve been running that custom carrier coldstart training over and over with various settings and bindings, and it is really superb and quite detail-oriented. markturner1960 Posted June 9, 2020 Author Posted June 9, 2020 Hi Buddy, sorry, I just noticed an error in what I typed in the original query...it should read joy buttons 4,5,6 NOT 9,10,11 ( these are for gnd power switch 2....) however, that not withstanding, I am a little confused here... with those bindings I have described, if I hold the switch in the back position, IE "B ON", it seems to generate a press for as long as I hold it? Are you referring to the required 3 second actuation in the mission? Or physically with the winwing panel? I have been holding the switches back for teh 3 seconds required in the mission...... The way I have it, as far as I can understand, the switch in its normal position is central, and therefore generates joy btn 5 press. When you move it forwards it generate joy btn 4 and backwards, joy btn 6 - is this correct? Would you mind trying this on your panel and seeing if it works? Or tell how you have yours set up ? I cant tell if you are using DCS bindings, joystick gremlin or simapppro...!! Would you mind System specs: PC1 :Scan 3XS Ryzen 5900X, 64GB Corsair veng DDR4 3600, EVGA GTX 3090 Win 10, Quest Pro, Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo monitor.
Supmua Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 (edited) Joystick gremlin only controls my throttle buttons 1 and 2, and custom button boxes. I’ve run this mission more than 10 times back to back over the weekend to test various things and it works consistently. My suggestion: Don’t bind anything to the middle switch position, leave them blank. Hold down the ground power 1 switch (B) when prompted for at least 5-6 seconds or until the bracket for ground power 2 pops up. This is when you know that it works because the switch will not flick back in cockpit view. The instruction says 3 sec but it requires longer hold (on the throttle panel). markturner1960 Posted June 9, 2020 Author Posted June 9, 2020 (edited) Hi, will try that....I am not saying its a problem with the mission BTW, as if I do the mission and use a mouse to click the buttons, it works perfectly...its something to do with my bindings. is the Auto function not used in the sim then? Edit - just removed the auto bind as suggested and it now works....... How do you figure this stuff out Supmua, you are a star ! Thanks!
