192nd_Erdem Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Well, first I want to say a big thanks for the ED team for their great effort on Lomac. I have a question, isn't ET a fire and forget weapon? If so,in Lomac it isn't modelled precisely. In Lomac I see that if you don't keep your radar lock(or break your radar lock immidiately) until the missile is like 20kms to target,it won't update it's course and will miss.(no problem in short ranges though) Is it realistic,or is there something that I don't know about this missile? Thanks for your replies.

Thanks for your replies. The kinetic range is as the HUD limits describe. The seeker itself is a normal heat-seeking sensor . . . . that just plain cannot achieve a lock at long range. According to the people In The Know, it was originally intended as an Uber-Heater, to chase down and kill bandits running from the fight at full AB. As such, they might be pretty close - but going that fast that you need a VERY big booster to catch them. Stick a heat-seeking head on the R27 airframe, problem solved. I have never heard the answer to the big question, though . . . . whether it's usable as a BVR missile IRL depends on whether it actually HAS a mid-course guidance datalink. Some people say yes, some say no. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
GGTharos Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 I also read somewhere that it's meant to intercept large aircraft at long range (aircraft that aren't willing to maneuver, like passenger liners/bombers/awacs and tend to fly at high altitudes) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
ED Team Chizh Posted December 7, 2004 ED Team Posted December 7, 2004 The R-27T/ET is a usual infrared missile like Sidewinder but with more power engine and warhead. It haven't any datalink. That is a fire and forget weapon. That may be best solution with heavy electronic countermeasures conditions with ECM aircraft intercept or other hard targets while SARH missiles may be weak. GGTharos Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Speaking of that, Chizh, any chance we could see chaff show up on radar and the radar possibly locking onto it by mistake? :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
ED Team Chizh Posted December 7, 2004 ED Team Posted December 7, 2004 We thought of it already. It will be possible in the next addon. Единственный урок, который можно извлечь из истории, состоит в том, что люди не извлекают из истории никаких уроков. (С) Джордж Бернард Шоу
GGTharos Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 :D Oh BTW ... have you maybe considered providing us, eventually, with an 'infantryman' or 'batallion' type infantry unit that we could plop down so that low-flying aircraft would take ground fire? I know it's gonna be a pain to implement (you could use individual infantry but then how do you cover a large area without overwherelming the CPU with AI's for exmaple) and so on. But please, think about it :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Kula66 Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 We thought of it already. It will be possible in the next addon. Funny, I was thinking about that this evening ... wishing my opponent could see just how muh chaff I was chucking out :) James
GGTharos Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 WHat the ... chaff? Why's my lock dropping..MORE CHAFF?!! KUUUULLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Kula66 Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 We thought of it already. It will be possible in the next addon. BTW is that planned in the Ka-50 addon, or are we talking about a different addon :) James
ED Team Chizh Posted December 7, 2004 ED Team Posted December 7, 2004 Yes. It's may be in the Ka-50 addon. Единственный урок, который можно извлечь из истории, состоит в том, что люди не извлекают из истории никаких уроков. (С) Джордж Бернард Шоу
D-Scythe Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Speaking of which, have the chaff/flare loads been fixed? It's way too low at the moment.
Drakkhen Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Way too low for someone who keeps flying over defenses too long, in a normal strike mission, you don't make ten passes so the number of decoys seems normal. I prefer ED keeps using the real number of ammos and decoys. GGTharos Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Real numbers of decoys DO number in the hundred. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Drakkhen Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Depends on plane and payload. "Heroism is the only way to get famous when you got no talent" Pierre Desproges "Whether fifty millions people say a stupid thing, it's still a stupid thing." Anatole France
GGTharos Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 The planes and payloads involved see 60+ decoys packed in a single pair of cannisters last I checked, and there are 4-6 cannister positions on the aircraft itself. I'll look it up in exact detail later. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
192nd_Erdem Posted December 8, 2004 Author Posted December 8, 2004 So you say it's not a BVR missile, but rather a short range missile that is used to engage targets running away. Ok fine, but why in Lock-On when you fire it in long range,it uses datalink? It has some kind of that? That's my question.
GGTharos Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 No, it doesn't. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
D-Scythe Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 F-15C/D/E aircraft carry decoys in three (main) configurations: 1) 90/75 chaff/flares 2) 120/60 chaff/flares 3) 180/30 chaff/flares Depending on type of flares carried, flare numbers may go up/down. But all in all, this is what an F-15C going to war would carry for the most part. F-15C in the game: 64/32 chaff/flares Do the math ;) GGTharos, the F-15C has 8 canisters, four in front of each main landing gear bay. Each canister can hold 30 chaff or 15 flares.
GGTharos Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Cool. We coudl use a double helping of flares since they're dumped out two at a time in LOMAC. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
