Seems really counter intuitive to put flagpole there. Can one / must one ask them to take it down before landing?

Yah, the flag pole goes away and the railings fold horizontal during flight operations.
I noticed this too... I replaced the "old" Russian carrier with this new version on the Su-33 missions, but I noticed the flag pole and the fence only disappeared after the first landing... there should be a away to configure this correctly.

Hmmm, I've not had a problem with it. It should fold down when you call inbound, were you using radio comms with the carrier?
Nope. Maybe that is why...

I've learned (somewhat recently) that a flyby with hook down signals "I wanna land" on US carriers. Obviously accommodations for radio failures must exist.

Doesn't help my Spit (neither will Russian livery I suspect).

Just open your ATC and request to land on Kuznetsov. The ATC will aknowledge and will grant you permission. When you get close to the ship you will find it configured for recovery - guardrails folded and no flagpole.

Cannot talk to ATC. Radios are preset on the ground (Server).

Reminds me, in WW2 ground crews switched crystals before each mission (allied and axis). Make this part of rearming / refueling menu. Suggested 7 years ago and still a good idea.

It's possible to tweak both the radio presets for the aircraft and the radio for the carrier in the Mission Editor if that's an option for what you're doing. Sounds like you're doing this on-line? Then you'd need to convince the server owner to make some tweaks for you.

Otherwise you'll just have to attribute it to the silliness of trying to land a WWII British aircraft on a modern Russian carrier ...

Online, yes. Not much point tweaking the server. It is only ever four preset channels. 60 airfields in Caucasus. I'd want fly, land & change crystals for next destination.

Though I did try to tell Aerobatics server guys that one of the presets doesn't correspond with any airfield.
