Weta43 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Hi, I guess that somone has done something about this already as it's bound to have been mentioned before, but could we have the 1st LODs for ground units set to sizes which roughly correspond to the size of the final model ? Currently (in LO.FC) the first LOD for an Igla / stinger is the same size (maybe bigger) than the first LOD for a LAV-25, which makes them too easy to find at high distances (before the trees & buildings pop up :-) If it hasn't been done - even if there's a feature freeze on, 1st LODs are just a box - shouldn't be too hard to sort out ??? EvilBivol-1 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Although I don't think there is a relationship between model size and box size for vehicle units, the new Igla/Stinger troops do not become boxes. They are reduced to their pixel size, as are the infantry models. Also, the general zoom-LOD algorithm has been altered. Now, when zooming optically (in any camera view or through sensors), the terrain and vehicle LOD increases in proportion to the zoom level (like appearing trees, buildings, etc), i.e. the more you zoom, the more detail you see. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Now, when zooming optically (in any camera view or through sensors), the terrain and vehicle LOD increases in proportion to the zoom level (like appearing trees, buildings, etc), i.e. the more you zoom, the more detail you see. which presumably gets rid of most of that dodgy effect of zooming in from great range & having only 'user placed objects' showing on the landscape, even though they're in the middle of a forest or town, which suddenly appears as you get closer. Flanker15 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I just turned the LOD1 all the way up (atleast till you couldn't see the boxes anyway), I thought the boxes looked dumb. The camera zoom showing buildings thing is great, I used to get pissed when my missile hit a building that wasn't visible! Speaking of the LOD1, while I hate it for units can some similar system be used for buildings? I'd like to be able to spot buildings from further away (I turn them right down since it kicks my comp in the nuts). Like instead of buildings being invisible or visible with high detail could low detail (shapes with low textures to just coloured shapes for extreme range) be added so they can be seen right out to the horizon?
