spacefox Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Hi guys, This will be a simple question. I am in the middle of my first campaign - The Georgian War (OMG, what a thrill). After I finish a mission, and quit the game. It asks on the game score/log window - Quit or End Mission. Sometimes, the score isn't saved when I do Quit (it does say all progress will be lost) but one time I did click End mission and the entire campaign went deactive. I must have done something wrong. What is the right option to choose? Thanks Specs: i7-5820K - 4.4 Ghz OC, 64GB Ram, RTX 2070 Super, Rift S
MAXsenna Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 I choose "end" if I'm happy with the result or don't wanna "cheat"/have another go. If I want to have another go, or don't want to save the result, I choose quit. To suddenly have the campaign desctivated, that seems like something went wrong. Never happened to me. Do you remember which mission? Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk

MAXsenna Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 PS: It's actually "Close" not quit. But you knew that. Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk
rob10 Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 If you died or didn't complete your mission for some reason choose "CLOSE" (bottom left). If you completed your objectives and made it back and landed safely (I think most missions are going to want you to land back, but maybe not all) choose "END MISSION" (bottom right). If you fail/die and choose the "END MISSION" option it will likely throw you back to the very start of the campaign. If you fail/die and choose "CLOSE" it will take you back to the start of the mission that you just flew so you can do it again (you don't have to do so right away). These are general rules of thumb, and I'm sure there are campaigns that are structured differently where they don't apply.

In some campaigns you need to stay alive/accomplish the mission, or it just ends as a failure/loss. Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk
spacefox Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 Sometimes I just quit when it says mission complete. Landing takes practice (I can never figure out ILS is working) - it doesn't pick up ILS like P3D. Can't figure out which side of the runway to land (still learning DCS). Guess I'm lucky as I started "flying" with keyboard in the 80s. MicroProse F-19 comes to mind, stuttering about <10 FPS in CGA graphics (4 colors two of them psychedelic). Landings where exceptionally fun, as you had to press a key, then wait to see what it did, and then compensate! Can't give any real advice as I've been doing this so long "I just know". I never use ILS unless I need to in IFR. Flaps, watch the (stall) speed and sink rate. Listen to the engine, don't let them spool down too low. Rather use airbrakes. I do forget from time to time to drop the nose to get more speed, and use thrust to control the vertical speed. And I just resently started paying attention to the angle of attack indicator, if any. Nah, don't take advise from me. As you can see, I have some very bad habits, but it works for me. Haha. Practice practice, repeat. Cheers PS: One thing though. If you ever plan to venture in to choppers. Start shopping for a second hand Microsoft SideWinder Force feedback 2. That WILL help you. Getting into choppers in DCS was really hard as I had to get rid of all my bad habits from older sims, and made me understand it better. Now it's easy. Now, if I only could have the patience to teach myself AAR... Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk
