F16FLCS-SME Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 (edited) I found out the terms "flashlight" and the term "utility light" are used interchangeably. This is very confusing for me because I know for a fact those are 2 different hardware pieces. The utility light is what is installed in the right console and can only be used with the MAIN PWR switch at BATT or MAIN, since it is fed by the battery bus, not the hot bus, which feeds only the canopy actuator. The flashlight is a commercial flashlight that each pilot has in a pocket of his G suit. It is battery powered by its own self contained battery, not the aircraft battery. according to [removed - Rule 1.16] "The only lights available from battery power are the utility light and the cockpit spotlights. Remove the utility light from its retaining post prior to strap-in. Ensure you are able to monitor RPM and FTIT during start until the generator is on line and additional lighting is available. Use your flashlight if necessary." I saw many threads about this and I believe a decision has to be made how to call it in the docs, the key bindings and the training mission texts.
