Using F22 parts to fix Cougar

I have several old F22 joysticks that I bought off ebay. There a chance I could use the parts from the F22 stick to fix the gimbal problem with my cougar.

Would very much like to help, as I also have my personal 'story' with joysticks (acquired my latest one merely 2 days ago), but I don't personally know that F22 joystick model.

 

So where I would start is: assuming you feel comfortable at disassembling and tweaking with them, do both models gimbals look physically similar ?
