Per -34-1-1, APG-159(V)-3 page 1-29, item 14, function, point 2:

  • Holding switch at forward or aft position causes the range gate to return and stow at minimum range until the switch is released

Per pages 1-31 and 1-32, item 20, function, note #1 and note #2:

  • (in missile mode) Holding button pressed will prevent radar lock-on. DCS does this
  • (in either dogfight mode) Holding the button pressed stows the range gate at minimum range until the button is released.

Per page 1-39, right column:

  • (In gun mode) Holding the ACQ button pressed (or the dogfight/resume search switch at aft position stows the range gate at minimum range.

Currently when switch is held either forward or aft the range gate sweeps outward and locks target if able in the same manner as if the switch was pressed and released. Similarly in GUN mode the ACQ button does not hold the range gate at minimum.
