SimPit Paint to Match USAAF WW2 Cockpit Zinc Chromate

Anybody have experience or suggestions for getting a paint color close to the zinc chromate used in USAAF cockpits?
The plastic model kit colors are good, but they just hold a tiny amount.

Given that pain stores can use a color sample to try to match paint, find something they can scan to try to match the color: i.e. you could use model paint to paint a sample or better yet find a real object painted in zinc chromate that fits their scanner.

Or you could use real zinc chromate primer which appears to be readily available if you "google" it.

Depends on the plane manufacturer as there were quite a few different types of Zinc Chromate used.Find one in a modellers paint, paint a sample then get a paint shop to match it as Streakeagle noted.

You can actually buy Zinc Chromate primer, in quart, gallon and rattle-can.  It's actually not any more expensive than any other paint.

But what Spitty said holds true... there is a LOT of variation in the shade and hue based on the paint manufacturer.
