As quite a newnie to DCS I sort of manage to figure out things as I go along. However placing my Harrier or F18 on one of the included carriers I cannot get to work.

In mission editor I can place the carrier somewhere, and then select a plane and place it on the deck, though it snaps to the end of a catapult. Make that plane player. As waypoint I select, take off from runway. When then running the mission I find me high over the carrier going 200 knots.

What am I doing wrong?

Help much appreciated.

Update...managed to place harrier on the Tarawa, perhaps the f18 does not belong on the Theodore Rosewelt.

However managing to place the Harrier way back on the deck,  but it spawns all the way in the bow, a sneeze and you are in the soup. Not easy this ME. Any suggestions also regarding the f18 on the Rosewelt.

Update 2

Ofcause the Theodore Rosewelt is the static non usable model of the super carrier module. Therefore cannot be used unless you own it.

However the bold text above still eludes me.

Yup, you can't interact with any of the Super Carrier boats without owning the module. You can still place and use the John C. Stennis carrier though, that one is included free with DCS World.

Are you having trouble placing the Harrier on the Tarawa? What do you have the waypoint type set to?
