I've got visual landing in the Flanker down to a science so I thought it would be time to tackle some bad weather landing using the ILS.

I set the weather conditions perfect and select a crimean airbase to land at.

I line up the IP on the MFD and the tower comes over the radio that I'm clear for a VISUAL approach. LOL! Yeah right! I picked a large airbase that I KNOW has an ILS.

I can see the ILS cross on the HSI but nothing comes up on the HUD. Is there a toggle switch? I tried hitting the 1 key but it simply clears the MFD and resets the navigation submode to Pilot.

What am I doing wrong?

I am flying Flaming Cliffs 1.12A.

Read the manual involving ILS aproaches ... that's what you missed :D

Okay... here is what the manual says:

"In the RETURN sub-mode, the sighting mark shows the glide slope intercept point. The

shortest line to the glide slope point will be indicated on HDD. Manual switching between

airfields is performed by pressing the [~] key. After reaching the glide slope intercept

point, the RETURN sub-mode will automatically switch to the LANDING sub-mode and

the Tower will provide landing instructions."

So when the submode switches to landing submode automatically the HUD should show the ILS cross right?

Set your HUD to RTN or (russian BO3) mode and you'll do fine!

I don't use HUD for landing in bad weather, all U need is in HSI. Try setting a HUD failure in failures tab of ME, practice some instrument landing for bad weather approach or in case your HUD fails, just like real pilots do!

No, it shouldn't. It should provide you with two circles, and you fly the smaller one into the bigger one.

No ILS cross on Russian aircraft. It's not on the real thing, either. It's the concentric circles.

Ah ha!!!

Okay.

Was this a change from 1.1 to 1.12A? The manual with my CD uses the cross.

I don't recall when it changed if at all ... I've been on the F-15C exclusively for a long time now. Incidentally, the F-15C does have the iron cross on the HUD, but it should not :)

IIRC, I think it's a change from 1.0/1.02 to 1.1/1.12a!
