There is a timing issue between the step where you idle at WP2 and then launch your ordnance at WP3 while under fire from the rogue Tomcat that turns up. In my case, here's what I did; Flew to WP2, and at about 6nm or so rippled two HARMs at the hostile SAMs, destroying them. I immediately rolled left and headed north on HARM launch to reduce closure to the SAMs while waiting for splash. After splash, I was told to loiter near WP2. So I turned into a looping orbit, with a far point about 11nm north of WP2. The Tomcat rocked up, did a launch on me, which was easily evaded. I then immediately turned towards WP3, angels 15, 500+kts, full AB, and did a loft release of the JSOWs towards WP3 when I was told to release "NOW". After the drop I turned towards WP4 and legged it. After a while, the voice comms and music went silent, and I was then told that my JSOWs had failed to destroy the target and the mission ended. But when I reviewed the Tacview afterwards, something interesting was revealed. My two JSOWs were still inbound, and on a ballistic trajectory that would have intersected the units that were at WP3. They probably had another 10-20 seconds of flight time remaining before impact. Might need to include a prompt in there to keep the tension going, but extend that timer a little for people who aren't exactly on the waypoint. The timing appears to be very tight.

Based on the plot factors, players need to attack quickly. I hope to create a scenario in which players drop bomb under the pressure of F14. There is a dialogue to illustrate this problem: "Bishop: our forces will be in grave danger if those are deployed!". I calculated that the time from WP2's designated altitude, push to within range and firing weapons, to weapons hitting the target is just enough. Can you tell me about the time from receiving the system prompt command in the upper right corner, to launching JSOW, and finally to hitting the target Or you can upload a Tacviwe files to help me adjust the timer. I'll have to review the tacview tonight when I get home. I know I launched the JSOWs when I was told to fire them "NOW!", but my actual position would have been right on the extremity of the allowed release circle, to the north (as I said, I lofted them to get them there). I get the idea with the tight timing - one way I guess you could get around that is to instruct the player to stay near WP2 _before_ they shack the SAMs. I did notice something else peculiar happen on the successful run of the mission (the successful time I knew to stay near WP2 so I launched on WP3 as soon as I was told to, no messing around). The Tomcat never engaged me - it locked me up for a few seconds, then literally vanished. I suspect this may have been because of the newly implemented jammer functionality - I turned the jammer to XMIT before the cat shot, and I think that my jammer broke the Tomcat's lock. I don't have any proof on that though, not without sitting down and watching the trackfile. I will say though - this is my first attempt ever at a campaign, and the combination of music, other aircraft, and the voice overs give a great feeling of urgency and weight to the mission, which is awesome.

Enjoy the game. In fact, there are plot reasons for the appearance of this F14. As the plot goes on, you will learn about them.
