How to detect a successful carrier landing?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm running up against a peculiar issue: I want to detect if a client unit (Hornet) has landed on a carrier. My approach was to attch a moving zone to the carrier (roosevelt), and test if unit (hornet) is in moving zone (zone, roosevelt), and if the unit's speed is below 50 knots (50 because the carrier is moving).

Try as I might, I can't get the condition to trigger, so I'm either doing something wrong, or DCS is doing something in the background when a unit becomes attached to another object (as it probably becomes upon landing).

My questions:

- what am I doing wrong?

- How do you detect a successful carrier landing?

Thanks for any pointers,

-ch

  1. Moving Zone: Most likely you made the moving zone to small, the zone centers on the middle of the carrier with the diameter having to be the real total length of the carrier (1092 Feet), and not just fit over the mission editor picture of the ship.
  2. Speed detection: Should be fine so long as ship is doing 50 knots and the trigger to detect speed is also in knots (not KPH or MPH) and less than 50.
  3. I can't test this at the moment to test if any faults with triggers have been introduced with patches.

Wiki:

USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) is the fourth Nimitz-class, nuclear-powered, aircraft carrier ... Length: Overall: 1,092 feet (332.8 m);

Thanks, @MadDog-IC!

I've run some more tests and it seems that a unit attached to a (super?)carrier (Hornet on deck of Roosevelt) does not trigger any trigger zone (be it moving or non-moving). The carrier itself does trigger a trigger zone.

Can someone else confirm that this is either true or I'm just an idiot?

Thanks,

Scratch that. I am an idiot. Please allow me to test some more...

Yup, it's all working. I simple mixed up unit and pilot names and added a dash of absent-mindedness.

Apologies for the noise, all is well.

Good to know, I just tested it in OB after update and all worked fine here.
