Hi,

I'm looking at buying a high-quality recording system for my PC. Settled pretty much on the Elgato 4k60 S+ - the version which records at 4k60fps of course and to SD card (fast one needed clearly).

My question to anyone who has this is will it record at 4k60 and output the image to the gaming monitor at 4k60 too? So far the passthrough resolutions appear to be lower, which is an issue, but would like to hear from anyone with this system. Many thanks.

I don't have any experience with that box.

But, do you need it? I ask in the context of maybe saving you some money - that is a fairly expensive box and you might be able to leverage hardware you already own instead.

Is the CPU in your system Intel? If you install the Intel Quicksync drivers you can record 4K from your system at the same time using the Intel CPU (iGPU) without affecting the performance of your AMD or NVIDIA GPU that is dedicated to DCS. I do it all the time without issue (at 4K) using OBS.

If there are other use cases that makes that box appealing or if you are on AMD CPU forget I said anything. 🙂

Thank you...will try that!

Also, 3090s have gone up from £1,400 to £2,400 at Overclockers. Bonkers.

Yeah - it's dumb. I was kind of on the fence about buying a 2070S in February 2020 given the new cards were coming. So glad I did that now. It's workable for 4K. Maybe the next round of cards won't get scalped/mined as hard and MSRP will not be fiction. <I'm an optimist at heart>
