Rhino4 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Hi. I recently built a new computer and so far it's doing great. I just have one problem. I used a new hard drive and I want to take the stuff from my old hard drive and put some of it on my new hard drive. So I hooked both of the hard drives up to my comp, booted from the new hd and once windows loaded I was able to take stuff from my "program files" folder and move it to the new hard drive, but when I tried to access the c:\documents and settings\owner file it says "access denied". Is there any way to bypass this and gain access? All of my music and personal files from my old computer are in there and I REALLY don't want to have to go through reloading every single one of my cd's onto my comp again. Last time it took months!:helpsmilie:
Shaman Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 If you are using Windows XP then go to Control Panel and change inside Folder Options a box that says "Use simple file sharing" (uncheck it, it should be under View tab). Now right click on the folder that you have no permission to access - as long you are logged in as system admin then using folder properties you can change ownership to this folder and all sub-folders and files to you. From now on you will be able to do whatever you'd like to. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
