Philip Mongeon Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Hi all, wasn't too sure where to drop this topic in since it isn't so much of a bug as feedback. I've noticed that the new-ish damage model (phenomenal job by the way) has flaming fuel tanks in nearly every case where more than 20 rounds hit the wings. I would like to stress the inaccuracy of this as most planes built after late 1942 were equipped with self sealing tanks, making a tank flame trail a near never occurence. For example on, the b17 and the A20, a few bursts of bf-109 machine guns (not cannons) will yield in a few tanks bursting into flames. This would not happen on the B17G as it was equipped with highly efficient self sealing tanks. Not sure if there is a way to reduce the probability of a flaming tank in the new damage model ?
r24 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 The P51 will burst into flames and smoke (can see an initial burst of flame, then steady flame & black smoke) from a 109 cannon hit. Don't know if it correct or not but it looks good! Maybe its from hits / damage on some place other than the fuel tanks?
Repvez Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 Yes, I have same problem with the DM. Every aircraft caught fire so easy. and even if they don't have there fuel tank. Most of the WW2 A/C have fuel tank in the fuselage, so if they get the hit in the wings why are they turn in flame? If there the new DM why break the wing if they suffer multiple hits? It seems to be just use Heal point and if they reach the limit broke anyway even if they didn't get hit . And this problem is also there in the modern jets. the new DM flame and smoke effect occur almost always the same. If the F18 get a hit by rocket it loose its wings and separate 3 pieces, but the main problem with it that the part of the wings itself burn and smoke heavier and longer than the main fuselage. But the main body has more remain fuel to run out than the small piece of wing. so what the reason to do that ? 1
Philip Mongeon Posted April 26, 2021 Author Posted April 26, 2021 I've also noticed that since the new DM, if you clip the wing of the spit or p51 say, on a tree, the wing shears off, yet the flight characteristics have not been altered. I have flown in dogfights with a missing wing section and was even able to land softly with no issues. This should definitely not be the case. Overall the new DM is pretty good but it could definitely use some slight tweaking and refining to improve the overall accuracy.
