So, an idea I just had, is something I've heard about that might be coming down the pipe, but something I think could use some good direction on. And that is a proper 'warehouse' where mods get uploaded, and downloaded as needed.

Now, let's say I make a USS Kitty Hawk mod, and wish to make it public. Right now, the only way I can do that is by publishing it online, and hoping that people download it. Now, while that would still be the case here, if you wished to join my server, and I had the mod active, you'd have to close out the game, start searching for it, download it, and then install it. Sure, it's easy to do, but many, MANY people mess this part up, and sometimes, in multiple ways. So, if such a system were to be made, he's how I think it would work

1. I complete my mod, and post it to the warehouse/nexus/whatever

2. it gets peer reviewed, and voted on. If a certain number of people vote for it (say ten people), it gets made public where anyone can download it.

3. it gets added to a search function, which if I did my job right, should be easy to find (uploaders would have to fill out a form that properly names it for the game)

4. people download it, and the game auto-installs it.

5. some time later I release an update. The game checks that file, against the one on the nexus, and the player is made aware of the update, and can choose to update the mod.

6. servers can now auto-install the mod (and others like it) when you attempt to join and lack the item in question, or disable the mod when you try to join servers that don't have it (or any mods for that matter).

7. if you wish to remove the mod, you can simply delete it yourself, or, have the game do it via this nexus.

This would probably be the best way to handle it, as it would work on both stand-alone and steam. ED could even publish items they wish to have on there to give us things to use now and again that don't have to wait for a major patch to be added (like the various ground units).

What do you guys think?
