Nuggetz Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Hi All, I have just purchased a Quest 2 and been tinkering with trying to improve the quality of the graphics and the FPS. I have made some progress but have a question regarding the monitor. The monitor has a twin/ stereo image of the scene seen in the headset and I don’t know if this correct or indeed sapping performance. Should this be the case or should the monitor be a single image? My PC is Win 10. Ryzen 7 3700X, GPU RTX 2700 Super, 0.5 TB SSD, 32GB RAM. Thank you in advance Ryzen 9800X3D, MSI RTX 4090, 4 TB SSD, 64GB 5200 MHZ DDR5 RAM, MSI 670E Motherboard, Pimax Crystal. Buttkicker Plus, WINWING Rudder Pedals & F16EX Throttle: FSSB-R3-MKII ULTRA Base/TMWH Joystick: DCS: F16C.
Recluse Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Monitor should be a Single albeit curved image. Here is a thread with some Quest 2 experiences and tweaks..
Nuggetz Posted May 12, 2021 Author Posted May 12, 2021 Thank you Recluse for the link. I have managed to get oculus link and air link working respectively but returned to using a cable when air link started playing up. I have had a solid 45 FPS reducing to 36 FPS with the graphics tweaked to give the best quality and crisp image I can produce so far. so far the graphics are no where no the quality of the monitor, but the 3D immersion is very impressive. I don’t understand how to revert to a single monitor image -is it a Windows setting? Also I am not sure what is meant by “built in virtual desktop”? Grateful for any advice, thanks again Ryzen 9800X3D, MSI RTX 4090, 4 TB SSD, 64GB 5200 MHZ DDR5 RAM, MSI 670E Motherboard, Pimax Crystal. Grateful for any advice, thanks again If you got it running with LINK, then you already got the "built in" virtual desktop running, probably unless I have been missing something all along! So what I do is when the LINK is established, I click on the DESKTOP icon so I can see my "monitor" and then I start DCS from there. It automatically goes into the Headset leaving the window on the desktop. I never tried JUST starting DCS while LINK is active. Maybe I should. I'm also getting a pretty solid 36 FPS with AIR-LINK but sometimes it drops. Since the LINK is 72 Hz, I believe the 36 FPS is 50% of that setting. I have tried the LOCK 45 Hz With and Without ASW in the Tray Tool, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Probably need the 90 Hz link to work. I haven't gotten much success with anything above 72 Hz even WITH the Link Cable. Agreed that GRAPHICALLY the Monitor looks much better, but I think the 3D Immersion makes up for it. A little worse for me in the Harrier vs. the Hornet where the displays are not as clear with the same settings. Haven't tried the A-10C or any of the FC3 aircraft yet as I almost NEVER fly them.
Nuggetz Posted May 12, 2021 Author Posted May 12, 2021 Ok thank you. It sounds like I am doing something pretty similar to you. I was just concerned that the twin image on the monitor was sapping performance thus affecting the headset. thanks again Ryzen 9800X3D, MSI RTX 4090, 4 TB SSD, 64GB 5200 MHZ DDR5 RAM, MSI 670E Motherboard, Pimax Crystal. Recluse Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 So, I tried it the EASY way, just enabling LINK and launching DCS from my computer (NOT going to DESKTOP) then putting the headset back on. Worked fine! I still only got the SINGLE image on the monitor and got the same 36 FPS indicated, so I guess either way works. STILL not sure why you got the double image, but as long as works in the headset you should be good
