I bought an ASUS Tuf Dash F15 (funny naming coincidence) laptop open box for $1200 and and it seems to run DCS ok with a Quest 2 headset (vr graphics setting, getting fps’s in the 70’s). I am planning on getting a Reverb G2 for the higher resolution.
I am still in the 2 week return window for the laptop and I don’t know if I should keep this laptop or return it and spend more money on a nicer laptop.
Funny thing is, this laptop CPU (11370h) only has 4 cores (poor multi-core performance), but really good single core performance. It has the highest Geekbench 5 single core score of all the laptop CPU’s. Barely below it is the Ryzen 5900hs (or hx). The TDP on the Tuf Dash F15 laptop GPU (3070) is at the very low end though (like 90w max). I can get another laptop with a Ryzen 5900hs and a 3070 with a max TDP of 120w (Zephyrus G15) for $300 more, but I can’t return it if I buy it.

I am only concerned with VR performance. Will getting a little bit more GPU power make a decent difference in VR, or is VR, at least in DCS, more CPU dependent?
Since I want to bring this with me when I travel I am strictly wanting to use a laptop. I am ok with turning the graphics down a bit, but I need fps to be in the 60’s at least.

What do ya’ll think?

I'm no expert here, but I've read many threads and posts that suggest DCS is not multi-threaded and therefore doesn't take advantage of multiple cores within the CPU.  Anyone, feel free to correct me.  Single core performance, at this time, is perhaps best for DCS.  GPU is definitely a factor on VR.  I run a NVIDIA RTX 2080, 32GB (2666) RAM and i5 9700 CPU with an Oculus Rift S and I get decent VR performance - minimal stutters - with settings set close to high.

That’s what I’ve gathered. Seems like CPU performance, in terms of single core performance, has topped out... newer multi core Cpu’s don’t help much.
I will hopefully have my hands on a Reverb G2 in the next couple of days. I’ll try to post some brief results.
