FullerGer Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 @Cosmonat It works. But how you mentioned it is strechted. Here is the result: Jack PS: Don't wonder about the text at the left, but I set LockOn to German. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 (edited) @Cosmonat It works. But how you mentioned it is strechted. Here is the result: Jack Ok cool man it works.. that's great news thanks a lot I really appreciate your help . The stretching is the same for everyone I'm afraid even if you look at Superkungfu's screen on page one it is also slightly stretched. However the image you posted looks rather pixelated so if I could ask that you try this one, I just made, at a higher res (1280) and post your results back here in your own time then that would be great. If anyone else running widescreen or a high res setting wants to try it and post a pic here then that would great too. Thanks :v:.1280.rar Edited October 10, 2008 by Cosmonaut Cozmo. FullerGer Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Here we go: If you compare the two screenshots you will see, that that second one isn't that pixelated. So I think it will work in 1920x1200 or higher. I don't know if there is any limit. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 Thanks a lot. Its better, so I'll have to see if I can improve it even more later on.. Thx again. Cozmo. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Minimum effort, maximum satisfaction. CDDS Tutorial Version 3. | Main Screen Mods.
FullerGer Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 No Problem. Btw would it be possible to make the other LockOn Windows like Briefing or the Editor in higher resolution ? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 No Problem. Btw would it be possible to make the other LockOn Windows like Briefing or the Editor in higher resolution ? Yep you should be able to do that with out any problems. One more question for you ;) . .. does the default Mainscreen look pixelated to you or is it ok? Thanks. Cozmo. SuperKungFu Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Hey cosmonaut, give me a shout out when you figure out how to smooth everything out. I'm pretty sure you run into this problem: When you create a new main screen in photoshop or whatever, the picture is smooth and clear. But once its converted into .dds and placed into lock on, the picture is a bit pixelated. (as you can see from my main screen in my first post) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

FullerGer Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 One more question for you ;) . .. does the default Mainscreen look pixelated to you or is it ok? Yes it does. Your 1280 mainscreen was much better. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SuperKungFu Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 the real image that I have is actually 1600x1600 because I use it on my widescreen This is what it looks like raw The black part get's cut off in a widescreen [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 the real image that I have is actually 1600x1600 because I use it on my widescreen This is what it looks like raw The black part get's cut off in a widescreen Thx I thought you might have customized it to your own default res... also as you probably know the image has to be a perfect square so you don't see the black part. Anyway I think I figured out how to get zero quality loss .. I'm uploading a file now and I'll PM you in a second. Cozmo. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Minimum effort, maximum satisfaction. SuperKungFu Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 (edited) oops my bad cosmonaut, I forgot to tell you one very important detail. As you can see in the picture I posted above, it looks normal. That's how I made it so everything would fit in the right place as it was intended to use on a widescreen. With that being said, you need to stretch it into Lock On's original ratio. As you can see in your files, the black area isn't as large, so I had to stretch it to match it. Here is the correct one: Although it does look stretch in this one, it would appear correct on a 16:10 ratio monitor. Edited October 10, 2008 by SuperKungFu [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted October 11, 2008 Author Posted October 11, 2008 I just tried the one you posted above and in game it was as good as the original. Here's a pic but it looked much better than the .jpg image below. Cozmo. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Minimum effort, maximum satisfaction. CDDS Tutorial Version 3. | Main Screen Mods.
SuperKungFu Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Alright I tested the one you gave me, although your 1024x768 version looks smooth, it still appears a bit jagged on my widescreen. The nose/canopy of the F-15E main picture and the F-15C quick start image, you can see some jaggedness. Here's a screen capture. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SuperKungFu Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 If you want, you could test my second version of the menu mod, I just changed the main picture around. I didn't use this one because when I converted to dds, the picture was very jagged and the words collided with the pictures. Maybe you will have better luck? note: I did not create the F-15C or Su-27 picture, those were from screenshotart.com [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted October 11, 2008 Author Posted October 11, 2008 OK first have a look at this, it's a better quality screen shot. This is exactly what it looks like for me and as you can see there is no loss in quality, no jagged edges etc. I'm not sure why it's not working like that for you but I'll have to PM you tomorrow. SuperKungFu Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 yea your 1024 version looks awesome. Maybe its something about widescreen and Lock On's auto rescale that kinda screws it up. But we are getting closer. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 Any news ? We tried a few things and basically a one size fits all mainscreen image that produces zero loss in quality isn't really possible. Although I think I did manage to improve things using the default resolution but you still may see some jagged edges. Try this High Quality screen on your system and see what it looks like.Download 1mb Cozmo. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Minimum effort, maximum satisfaction. CDDS Tutorial Version 3. | Main Screen Mods.
FullerGer Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Looks nearly perfekt. But why is it just 1024x1024? Thought it was HQ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 Looks nearly perfekt. But why is it just 1024x1024? Thought it was HQ It's a Higher Quality Image not a higher resolution one. The problem is in the auto rescale dealing with ratios outside 1024x768. If I make a higher resolution image then those running the default ratio will get jagged edges and the file size will sky rocket. I think in the end SKF had a 30mb mainscreen image. It was smooth but load times increased to an unusable level. So a compromise is the best way I could figure out how to deal with this issue. Basically 1024 image with a 4mb file size. It should look good for even the higher resolution screens with out decreasing loading times. Cozmo. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Minimum effort, maximum satisfaction. SuperKungFu Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 actually the 30 mb one is still ok (res 3000x3000), the 100 mb one with resolution 6000x6000, lol, now that took just a bit longer. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 actually the 30 mb one is still ok (res 3000x3000), the 100 mb one with resolution 6000x6000, lol, now that took just a bit longer. LOL .. :D I'm surprised you don't get jagged edges when using such a high res. I run 1024 and when I tried 1280 it looked terrible. Cozmo. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Minimum effort, maximum satisfaction. SuperKungFu Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 yea for some reason, on the widescreen, going higher won't give you jagged edges. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
