Sérvalpilot Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 The new graphics options and clouds (at a distance) are pretty nice and all that but there are a couple things I'd like to get off my chest with this update. First is the loadout flavor text. It just seems too messy and cluttered now, especially with a bunch of acronyms that new players would need to figure out like UnGd, Rkts, HEAT, etc. Having the extra info in the encyclopedia worked just fine for me. Now that we can't edit the flavor text ourselves (more on that later), I'm not sure this descriptive stuff would be made optional. Also, I still have that issue from a previous "stable" update of stuttering in the mission editor/planner where clicking on a pylon slot causes the game to freeze for up to two or three seconds. Another thing that I don't like is the annoying baked-in reflections that seem "noisy" and pixelated. Turning off SSLR ("Screen-space lighting reflections" I think) does not fix this. Lastly, I have a couple thoughts about the "tweakability" of DCS. Last year, an update removed the ability to easily edit sound; so editing the default sonic boom sound needed to be done through a mod. I would like to change the new interior missile firing sounds, but I don't know how to because there are no sound files for core DCS any more! In addition, it was nice to be able to tweak weapon parameters. It was nice to be able to tweak DCS for a more balanced, fair, "game-like" experience, but now that's going to be a lot more difficult to achieve. I doubt we'll see that kind of "moddability" again, and that sucks. So overall, I think DCS 2.7.1 is one step forward, one step back.
Sérvalpilot Posted June 17, 2021 Author Posted June 17, 2021 Also, the clouds are a bit too blurry up-close.
