Mugatu Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Yanks are having a hard time with this one, first the comanche now the cheap option. Maybe time to go Euro :smilewink: http://www.defense-aerospace.com/cgi-bin/client/modele.pl?session=dae.42211348.1224330376.oS8FBH8AAAEAAFb4zX4AAAAB&prod=98861&modele=release#
AlphaOneSix Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 It just cost way too much for what was supposed to be the "cheap" option. The cost per unit was up to $14.5 million. I don't know any yanks who are having a hard time with this one. The community most affected (the OH-58D community) has been screaming for months that the ARH was the wrong way to go and that the best option at this time would be to develop an OH-58E that cuts down on weight by using newer electronics and upgrading the powerplant with something more current. I somehow doubt that the Defense Department will go for that, though, and will probably go back to the drawing board and design something completely new. Nobody in aviation that I know shed any tears over the cancellation of the Comanche, either, so they do have that in common.
