For those who also fly Vipers and Tomcats:  Does RWR update so painfully slow?

Shouldn't the threat spikes rotate immediately and smoothly?  If there's processing time required to show the threat position correctly, why not rotate first, then process and adjust the spike position. It would help with notching incoming missiles and other emitters quickly.

Currently in the Hornet, when turning rapidly away from the threat say 90 deg. when leveling on a new heading, the spike is still on my nose for a second. I know that even in the older RWRs, things worked a bit faster.

You're right, it should be faster. The ALR-67(V)2 is coupled with the INS, so it can log the threat azimuth and update it on the display at the speed of the other INS elements, when changing ownship azimuth.

In DCS, it's much slower than the INS update speed. I'm not sure if the RWR is only updating the azimuth upon a new detection or it's working with the INS, but slower than it should.

Both the Tomcat (earlier version of the same RWR) and the Harrier (same version) update the azimuth faster, when turning.

There have been a few discussions about this in the past.

@Harker

Another quick question if I may.  Currently, is there any way to filter out types of emitters on RWR?  Switching between NORM, SEA, LAND or AIR.  This little knob on EW panel doesn't seem to do anything.  It changes the letter in the center of RWR and the filter type on EW display though. Am I missing something?

Not implemented yet, I checked recently. That knob is indeed what you're looking for, but although the emitter type letter is changing on the display, the filter logic is not implemented.

Also note even if there was no INS integration with the actual RWR, the bearings are sent to the MC so it could easily "post process" them to stabilize them with the INS data. Every sensor passes thru the MC to actually put its data to use.
