Orb Posted July 15, 2021 Posted July 15, 2021 Hi all Long time IL2 player dabbling his toe in the DCS waters, i'm loving the challenge! This is all very new, so excuse me if ive missed anything obvious. I was wondering where the majority of the WWII (European time) online community usually fly? I can only ever find servers like SoW containing 20-30 people during an evening. Big map, so difficult to find so few opponents. Am i not looking in the right places? Or is the DCS mainly a fast-jet community? Do i need to install the beta version to find more players? Cheers!

If you fly on the server A bit you will learn where the fights usually are. it could be easier to find a fight but that is not the server owners vision for the server. I would suggest you get in with a group that regularly flies on storm of war in order to more quickly learn the ropes. 1

Some to watch out for are: "Clash of Wings" is one good place to get started. It is set on the Channel map, with a more localised area to help get you started and find action quickly. See their website for details: https://www.clashofwings.com/ Then there is "Les Faucheurs de Marguerites" (LFDM) which has both Normandy and Channel-Map servers. You can find their website here: https://lfdm.online/index.php/fr/ For "Storm of War", check the briefings to find ground targets (= action). There are radar-callouts for contacts. And, use SRS to get live voice-comms with fellow pilots. (Or check the SoW discord.) 1
Orb Posted July 16, 2021 Author Posted July 16, 2021 Thanks guys. If I was to install open beta, will that mean SoW will become unavailable to play? Or do you all have both versions installed at the same PC?

My advice is to only install Open Beta if you plan to fly Multiplayer. The vast majority of servers require Open Beta. 1 1
Orb Posted July 16, 2021 Author Posted July 16, 2021 Great, thanks. I dont plan to play single player to be honest. 1
The_Tau Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 If you really want something new and challenging, you can try also servers like Korea! 1952 or Cold War 1947-1991 (some missions) for that dissimilar 1950s feel, where prop planes like P51s (F-51s ) are assigned ground pounding duty, watching out for much faster jets.
