Good Morning!

I'm trying to figure out this dedicated server business, but being a complete novice, I've run into some problems, and I'm hoping folks here can help out. I expect there are lots of people doing what I'm trying to do, but it's largely a lack of knowledge on my part that's confounding me.

To start: My intended environment is as follows:

1: Windows 10 Machine, running Server and Client, machine is a Dell 7910, 2x Xeon E5-2623 V3, 64GB RAM, Static IP on my local area network

2 Windows 10 Machine, running Client, machine is a Dell 7910, 2x Xeon 2x 2637 V4, 128GB RAM, Static IP on my local area network

Obviously, the object here is to try to run one box as a server, and run the other box as a client. The client machine works fine as my DCS platform, but I play mostly in single mode mainly because I don't feel the need to publicly humiliate myself on somebody else's server. I'm sure I will in time. I have verified I can log into public servers in multiplayer mode, so I know computer #2 works fine.

So I installed DCS server and DCS on computer #1. I'm finding I'm having difficulties with the following, so far:

When I started the server the first time, then started the client, I created one mission for testing with the client and I was able to load it into the server mission list using the webgui.

I wasn't able to connect to the server, from the client on the server machine. I tried using the local IP, and I tried using the loopback address(127.0.0.1), all to no avail. I've jacked around with the firewall rules, everything *seems* correct based on what I've been able to gather here and on other websites.

I guess I'll start there. The other problem I've now encountered is that on the server, I've dropped that one test mission out, and when I tried to add missions, now it won't let me add any. I don't know if I've broken something, or what might be the case.

Also, how do you contend with the issue that if you log into the DCS client on the server, your account's in use, so how do you log into your DCS account on your client machine? I saw a mention of somebody using a second account, so I created one, but of course, it doesn't have any of the various modules I own, so it errors on load about not being licensed/authorized for all those planes/terrains/etc that the second account doesn't have rights to use. What's the best approach to this?

If somebody has a really concise installation tips/tricks/guide page link, I'll happily take a look.

One thing I've noticed is the web gui doesn't seem to have much configurability for the server. I'm not sure how that affects my situation. Also, I should note that I don't have the server publicly listed at this point, and I've restricted users to two(2). Obviously, until I get my problems sorted out, there's no point putting the server "out there."

Thanks for all guidance/assistance/advice!

Use the account with no modules linked to it for the dedicated server.

The top pinned thread in this forum has everything you need to successfully setup a dedicated server.

Dawger,

Thanks! I got it running, and was able to log into it from my primary machine, and fly a basic mission! Cool!

I've got some experimenting to do on the server yet. Trying to figure out how to make it perform a little better.

Thanks!

Mark
